Sandy Pug Games
Games. By Dogs, For Dogs
Sandy Pug Games is a small RPG design company that makes interesting and unique games and supplements. Formerly a board game design project, I took a break from design for a couple years before returning with a million RPG ideas and a newly found zeal for writing a bunch of nonsense about wizards.
I’ve been running and designing games for a good 10~ years now which is a little scary to write but we all have to face the yawning inevitable march of time sooner or later, how better than through elfgames! My favourite systems are Dungeon World, Fate, and Blades in the Dark. When I’m not designing games I work to develop a food based community outreach group with my friends.
I used to do a podcast about Space. You can check it out here. I think it's pretty neat.
Sandy Pug Games is sorta named after a dog I once knew, find the hidden link cave for pics of him and other animals I care for.
I have various opinions, good and bad, professionally on my twitter and medium. I really like this article I wrote about Kickstarter.
If you’d like to contact me for some reason, my email address is SandyPugGames [At] gmail.com or you can yell at me on Twitter here.
SPG has a lot of content under its belt, here's some of our highlights.
Americana is a murder mystery TTRPG set in a fantastical, and utopic, queer focused 1950s california. My favourite mechanic in this game is definitely the Your Dead Friend tool, a system designed to center the victim of the murder in your story and make them a character at the table with you. We kickstarted this and it was a blast to produce.
Disposable Heroes stemmed from an attempt to create a fast, roguelike experience in a TTRPG format. We replaced character sheets and playbooks with cards, and we made death a fun mechanic that gives you a new set of tools every time it happens. I really love the Jet Set Radio inspired artwork, and it was a real joy to create this alongside my partner, Ren. Funded last year, we should have it out by December, check it out here.
Monster Care Squad is our latest venture, and I won't talk too much about it here. It's Monster Hunter meets Miyazaki meets Final Fantasy, a world without violence, you play Monster Vets out to save them from a maddening poison. Get a look here
Honorable Mentions: Mirror, a 3 player TTRPG about vulnerability where you play as the person sitting across from you. Orc Stabr a semi-successful community building project where you hunt Big Monsters but the real draw was us doing bespoke and custom artwork with crayons on every single copy.
